Activities:

Your main activity will be to support and assist the service users. In the morning, you will accompany children and young adults by walking with them to physiotherapy and to and from school. You will help service users with practical everyday activities such as movement around the centre, dressing or at mealtime. The workers will also need your help with positioning clients and getting them ready for paraffin treatment. Activities that you will be part of help service users become more independent during their daily routine. Afternoon activities include walks in nature, activating and relaxing activities for service users such as reading or singing. Sometimes, you will also be their motivational ‘game buddy’.  There will be the space for you to realize your own mini-project.

Preferred personal traits:

  • Having a smiling, warm personality
  • Being patient
  • Empathetic
  • Easy-going
  • Willing to listen to the ‘monologues’ of clients
  • Mentally and physically fit and resilient

Events throughout the year:

You will have the opportunity to be part of events throughout the year, which are mainly located in the primary school that the Centre users attend. The school is in the same building, and you can also go there to participate in different themed events at Christmas, St. Nicholas, Easter or on other holidays or international days. In addition, every summer, Lydie centre organizes “Summer in Lydie”. It is a week of fun activities for regular service users but also for one-time service users. Workers take the users on trips to swimming pools, cinemas, castles, etc. and you would be part of that too.

Growing through challenges:

The challenges you may face and grow through them are:

  • Prejudices about people with disabilities – how to keep an open mind, how to work with each Centre user.
  • Communication with autistic clients -through this you will gain more patience and mental resilience
  • Manipulation with immobile young adults – you will learn how to manipulate with them effectively
  • Overcoming the language barrier – you will learn new skills of non-verbal communication
