Ali's day at Lydie

Ali came from Slovakia and she is a volunteer at Lydie in Český Těšín. Let´s have a look at her placement together!wink

MY DAY AT MY PLACEMENT

"I spend most of my time helping with physiotherapy. During the day I meet people of different ages and with different types of disabilities. My supervisor is also a physiotherapist from whom I can learn a lot. In exercises with clients, she uses the Feldenkrais method, which teaches clients to effectively connect the brain with the body and better perceive their body. Of course, that sometimes it is boring to me to spend time by physiotherapy because I don't feel needed all the time. But on the other hand, it is interesting for me to observe the changes at the clients that happen during the exercise.

Sometimes I also help in social activation services for clients with autism. Here I take part in working with autistic people, where I film them on mobile phone or help them as an assistant in various activities. I also make pictograms that are used to work with autistic people. I am fascinated by working with autistic people because it is extremely meaningful work to me. I enjoy working and communicating with them, which is not always easy, but it keeps me moving forward because I can always learn and get better at it.

Last but not least, once a month I participate in the relief services, where I help with feeding, dressing and spending free time with clients. I also learn many skills here, such as how to take care of immobile clients and how to manipulate with them effectively."  (Ali)
