The mission of the placement:

The low-threshold centre in Albrechtice offers after school activities for children and young people. The service aims to achieve positive changes in the lives of children, provide information, professional assistance and support in difficult life situations, as well as offering conditions for establishing new contacts, thus preventing the children and young people from being socially excluded.

Activities:

Your task will be the preparation and implementation of leisure activities for service users. You will participate in the usual activities prepared by the centre (playing board games, table football, conversation and presentation of different topics). Preparing decorations with the clients based on the season and holidays. You will have a specific time to show features of your country of origin (cuisine, habits, educational system, institutions, leisure time activities, plays and games typical for your country). Teaching service users foreign language (English or your original language) in an entertaining manner would be welcome.

Preferred personal traits:

Open to work with the children and teenagers
Active approach
Communicative (don’t be shy to talk)
Be open to learn the Czech language
To be able to play in any musical instrument would be great benefit
Creative, artistic talent (drawing, cutting, gluing, manufacturing)
Working with a PC (PowerPoint, Word)

Events throughout the year:

The low-threshold centre participates in public events as is “Week of low-threshold centres”. They also organise many trips and excursions for the young people. In these events young people have the opportunity to talk to members of the community and present their actions, in order to raise awareness of the problematic of socially excluded children.

Growing through challenges:

Be adaptable to change because, for example it is never sure how many young people will come
Overcoming the language barrier because 90 % of the young people don’tt speak English. Be prepared to communicate by different methods!
The placement is around 20 minutes by bus away from the apartment where you will live. Commuting might be a problem.
The work seems to be monotonous sometimes.
