SPENDING A DAY WITH RIKA AT SALOME

"Day with" is an opportunity for volunteers to visit another volunteer's placement for one day, to get to know another workplace, to work with another target group, to bring a piece of their culture, to enrich others and to be enriched at the same time❤️... How did Rika (Germany) and Marta (Spain) spend it together?

"Ahoj! Today I’m coming to talk about my experience spending one day at Salome, Rika’s workplace. As flatmates, Rika and I are used to spend a lot of time together, but I couldn’t imagine how fun it would be to share one day with her there. We are always talking about our days at work and it was truly amazing to experience what she is living day by day, having the opportunity to meet her enchanting coworkers and some of her lovely clients.

It was also a special day for another reason: it was Rika’s 19th birthday🎂🎈🎉, so the first thing we did before leaving our apartment was taking the cake she prepared the day before to shared it with the other workers. We travelled for a long time from Český Těšín to Bohumín, spending time also with Klaudia, who slept at our apartment the night before. When we finally arrived there, we walked all around Salome, as Rika and her supervisor, Žaneta, wanted to show me all the rooms and materials they have there. After that, we met in the main room with all the workers to have lunch together, celebrating Rika’s birthday and talking about everything that could come to our minds. They gave me an incredible warm welcome ❤️ there, and I felt comfortable and excited about being with them all of the time.

When we finished eating🥮, Rika and I waited until the first client arrived, and under the supervision of Žaneta, we spent a lovely time with him: we plan a recipe that he will prepare the next day and we played football all together (even though it made obvious that I’m not naturally gifted for that, hehe😀). After him, I met one of the other clients, with whom we played a game that Rika prepared for him. In it we needed to create some stories, and it was beautiful to see how the kid had a lot of imagination and stories to share with us, having a really great time all together. When we finished with the stories, we went to the 🌳 garden for play another game that Rika prepared, in which the boy and I had to work together to solve some challenges. It was truly fun and meaningful for me to spend time with them, and I feel really grateful about it. When we finished, we wait for his mum to come, and it was amazing to meet her as she was Spanish too. We could talk in our maternal language and it was a beautiful ending for a day full of new and lovely experiences. I cannot wait to the moment in which Rika comes to my workplace to share another incredible day together, creating new memories and learning all we can about our workplaces." :)
